Ellie in recovery update

Hi folks,
Some of you are aware that our special partner "Ellie" was mysteriously injured in August. The deep laceration on her elbow healed up in a month. She had been recovering through the scary stages of possible serious infection in the fetlock joint capsule, but a month ago began showing symptoms of neurological damage. The injured fetlock has been x-rayed. She was evaluated by a veterinarian , Dr. Kim Henneman from Utah, with chiropractic training a week ago and showed indication of possible whiplash injury in the neck. During the last week she has exhibited very serious symptoms of neurological damage and being treated by Dr Susan Johnson and Dr. Barb LeClair from Riverbend Veterinary Clinic. The test for Lyme Disease came back negative. We are still waiting for the result for EPM. The vets have been treating her aggressively and with great compassion. Today she showed good signs of standing more stable, moving better, and being mentally alert. She is still at risk of a relapse, but we are encouraged by the return of the expression of the Ellie " spunk". This morning she did not want me to catch her to administer her medication. Throughout the whole ordeal she has continued eating which has helped her maintain her strength. Thank you to all who have been aware of this situation and been helpful and encouraging. I especially want to thank the veterinarians who have been so caring and attentive to Ellie. More later......

Agenda is flexible, but here are some possibilities:
Friday:
5:00 Arrival, settle in, choose sleeping location (woods cabin, tipi, bunkhouse bed)
6:00 Gathering
6:30 Supper - pot luck , bring salad, casserole, or dessert. Meat provided to be grilled.
7:00 Campfire and stories - Reminisce about your horse experiences – scary, special, funny.
Saturday
7:00 to 9:00 continental breakfast available
9:00 Horse time - instruction, grooming, trail ride
11:00 Choice time - work on an art, craft, photography, read, rest, hike
12:00 Lunch - make grinders
1:00 Quiet time - rest, read, write in journals
2:00 Choices:
Ride some more!

Erect tipi
5:00 Supper preparations
Sunday - As we choose!!!!
Cost $195 includes riding instruction, riding time, board, and 5 meals in addition to the potluck.

Freddie Pelland Memorial Ride

Kate (on Gem) and Lynn (on Leo) rode the short loop on Sunday, August 23 at the Freddie Pelland Memorial Ride in honor of Freddie and his horse, Buddy. Lynn owned Buddy for almost two years. It was a wonderful ride and Kate, Lynn, Gem and Leo all had a great time. We walked, visited and enjoyed nature and each other's company for the three hour loop. We got back in time to enjoy a pot-luck lunch before the rain came.

a great morning

what a wonderful day to awaken to. The birds are singing. Hawk
( the escape artist) and Mingo are leaning over the fence for the green grass. So I went and extended their pasture into the new grass rather than wait for their eventual escape. The students from Bryant Academy are coming this morning to culminate their week of horsemanship instruction. We enjoy other activities too, such as frog catching, building campfire sites, climbing trees....Photos to come, when Lynn is here to coach me. I am still such a novice with the computer.
